The journey…
Unity, balance, harmony, protection…so many things are symbolized by the circle shape. And when I had these stones together on my bench, I knew they were meant to stay close to each other. The design evolved over time and the wholeness it represented when it was completed meant so much.
The stones are actually Wampum shell, made from the quahog clam and channeled whelk. Traditionally, Indigenous people consider them to be sacred and significant in their history. The beads were used to record treaties, in storytelling and for ceremonies.
Today, I am fortunate to have come across them and to be able to create something beautiful to honor them.
The shells have homes in fine and sterling silver, are joined together with more silver circles and are adorned with wampum beads dangling at the bottom.
The pendant measures 11/16” at the widest, is 3 1/4” tall, including the bail and the beads and comes on a generous length of sari silk that easily fits over your head and can be tied to your preferred length. The pendant is finished with a rich patina and soft polish.
