This heart is made from Wampum shell, which comes from the quahog clam and the channeled whelk originally and traditionally hand carved by the Indigenous peoples of Northeastern Woodlands. It carries profound cultural significance for storytelling, diplomacy, and signifying leadership. It served as a sacred medium to record arrangements, exchange ceremonial gifts and pass down history. I made a sweet home for the heart in fine and sterling silver, surrounding it with hand stamped details. The setting is 13/16” wide and 7/8” tall.
It has a supportive split shank band is 3/16” wide, made in a size 8.5 and was finished with a rich patina and soft polish.
